National Sleep Helpline

At any given time up to 40% of adults and 50% of children (this rises to 80% with a SEND diagnosis) have difficulties with their sleep. Yet in a recent survey, almost 60% of adults felt there was a lack of support for sleep issues. Sleep problems can leave people feeling isolated and lonely.

This free helpline is run by trained sleep advisors, many of whom are specialists in working with SEND. We can talk to young people directly, or parents (we can also talk to adults, including older people, about their sleep issues).

The helpline is open 5 times a week, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evenings 7-9pm, and Wednesday mornings 9-11am. The number is 03303 530 541.

See the flyer below for all the information.

TT Rockstars Competition
Attention Year 4,  5 and 6 Wessy parents!

We will be taking part in a friendly TT Rockstars competition involving schools from England from Monday 8th November to Thursday 11th November.

For every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, your child will earn their class a point. Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.

To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60 minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60 minutes between 7.30am and 7.30pm. Once the player goes beyond 60 minutes of play on a given day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition.

We will be allowing the children some time at school to add to their score and if your child wants to play outside of school, please don’t play on their behalf but by all means encourage and support them to the extent that it doesn’t cause high stress levels or impact on family plans.

Online Safety

We know our children are spending a lot more time online and we’re also aware of the positive effect this can have on their lives. But it is also incredibly important that we teach our children how to be safe when they’re in the online world.

Here is the poster we use in school that is displayed around the computer areas in classrooms as a visual prompt that explain the key areas of online safety and all children are aware of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child with Article 17 highlighting their right to be safe when gathering information online.

Remember it is important to talk to our children about this, and just like we would teach them how to cross a road safely, we don’t have to have a ‘big chat’ it is just as effective to do it in small chunks as often as possible.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact one of the safeguarding team in school (Mrs Young, Michael, Mrs Sykes or Mrs Lorraine) and we can share ideas or help in any way we can.

Here are some links from organisations which you may find helpful:

Rearranged Dates:

Due to the school being closed, the following events have been rearranged:

Year 2 Class Assembly is now Thursday 8th March at 9am.

Year 2 families are to drop their children off as normal then come around to the hall fire door to get their seats for what promises to be a spectacular show.

World Book Day is now Tuesday 13th March

Children are invited to attend school dressed as a character from their favourite story for a day of book based fun!

School Closure Notice

School will remain closed Friday 2nd March.

The safety of our students, parents/carers and staff remain our primary concern. Thank you for your cooperation and patience during this time. As always your support is much appreciated. Stay safe.

See you all on Monday 5th March

Snowspiration

We know it’s hard for both you and the children being stuck indoors for 2 days (apart from going outside for a snowball fight or building a #wessysnowman)

So we came up with a couple World Book Day inspired ideas:

The younger children could have a practice run of their costume ready for next week, or pretend to be the teacher to their toys and read out their favourite stories, with voices and actions of course.

Or the older children could do a YouTube style review about a story they like or dislike. Get them to harness their favourite Vlogger like Dan TDM or Ali – A.

School Closure Notice 1/3/2018

Due to continued poor weather the school will remain closed Thursday 1st March 2018.

Stay safe, keep warm and remember to upload your snowmen/women to Facebook with the hashtag #wessysnowman

Thank you for your support.

School Closure Notice 28/2/17

Due to adverse weather conditions school is closed today. We will review conditions regarding the rest of the week and let parents/carers know our decision through text and our Facebook page.

Stay safe and keep warm.
