Scroll down to see some of the amazing things we’ve been up to in and out of class as well as homework and topic content.
Safety Works Trip
We looked at all different ways to stay safe including how to use metros and buses safely. We also were shown what it would be like to be taken into police custody if we had made a bad choice.
We visited Nissan to look at renewable energy, different ways it can be used and how Nissan use it within their factory. We were set a challenge of building a car powered by an elastic band and we even got to have a drive in the Leaf.
ICT – Coding
In Year 6 we have been having a go at cracking some problems and making our own games using Scratch.
This week year 6 have been doing practice SATs. While half the class were inside working with staff on practice papers, the other half were outside enjoying the sunshine in forest school.
Working with our forest school leader, Mrs Burnikell, we have been taught how to use a peeler, fixed blade knife, bow saw and hand drills safely and effectively. We also helped plant new willow and watered it and got to explore the mud kitchen and dens that had been made earlier.
We have been researching renewable energy sources. As part of DT lessons, we have designed our own wind turbines and made a prototype. We’ll be refining designs next week.
As part of our Sport Relief day we took part in a Fitblast session where we came up with our own 20 second HIIT routine
Year 6 had great fun in gymnastics with our coaches, practicing forward and backward rolls as well as improving our flexibility. More recently we worked on body positions as well as some floor routines; beam – which helped to improve our balance and vaulting to work on our landings and finish.
We have really enjoyed stretching our learning at home and, as you can see, have created some wonderful pieces of work.
Rights Respecting Discussion on Earthquake Victims
As part of our rights respecting work we discussed which rights were being taken away in those countries that had been devastated by earthquakes and things we could do to help.
Stephanie works closely with the police force educating young people about choices and consequences. This programme was about shoplifting. We had fun acting out different fruit and veg to highlight choices. Also discussed different scenarios and what the children would do in each one.
Year 6 had a fantastic trip to Nissan and learnt about career opportunities within the company. We had great fun exploring how a production line works as we used Lego to make a Nissan Buddy. It was fascinating visiting the workshop looking at how the robots were programmed. One even drew a picture for us to keep! Later on, we used tools to have a go at practising some of the skills needed to make cars.
The day ended with a Japanese tradition – colouring in the eye of a Duruma doll.
Trip To Beamish
Before Christmas we visited Beamish Open Air Museum to get a taste of what it was like in wartime Britain.
