Safeguarding at Wessington

Wessington Primary School and Childcare Centre are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. All staff (both teaching and non-teaching) receive regular Safeguarding Training to ensure they are fully aware of current guidance and best practice. Our training is provided by Pam Gartland: Safeguarding First, who are extremely experienced in dealing with safeguarding needs.

Our school is also part of the project ‘Operation Encompass’ which aims to support children who are affected by Domestic Abuse. For further information please click here.
If you, or someone you know is affected by Domestic Abuse, you can find confidential advice and support by clicking here.

We are also proud to be part of Operation Endeavour which is a joint operation between Together for Children Sunderland, Northumbria Police and the Police and Crimes Commissioner to safeguard children and young people at risk of harm from going missing.

How it works:

➔ Police receive a report that a young person has been reported missing.
➔ Operation Endeavour admin notify key contacts in school (Mrs Young and Michael Owens) via email.
➔ School inform relevant staff.
➔ Operation Endeavour admin notify school when the young person is found.
➔ Young person is supported as needed by a member of staff they are comfortable with when they return.

If you ever have a concern about any aspect of child safety, please bring it to the immediate attention of a member of our Safeguarding Team who are always available to listen to and help deal with problems or visit the local SCB website to report your concerns.
