At Wessington we follow the Read, Write Inc phonics scheme. This is a systematic synthetic phonics scheme tailored to each child’s level.
Your child will follow the Speed sound lessons which are divided into three sets.
Children:
* Learn 44 sounds and the corresponding letters/letter groups using simple picture prompts
* Learn to read words using sound blending
* Learn to write the letters/letter groups which represent the 44 sounds
* Learn to write words by saying the sounds and graphemes
At the end of Year 1 each child will be assessed using the phonics check, your child’s class teacher will give you more information on this in parents meetings.
